Description

Delicious scones from a British friend.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cups Buttermilk
  • ¾ cups Butter, Melted
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ¾ cups Sugar
  • 1-½ cup Raisins (Craisins Or Any Other Dried Fruit Or Nuts Can Be Substituted)

Preparation

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Scoop a handful of dough and form a biscuit-like shape. For a reference to size: I always get 12 scones out of this recipe. Place scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, Silpat or lightly greased. Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes, or until scones are golden on top. Remove and cool for 10 minutes before serving.

You may glaze them with 1 cup powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of fresh citrus juice.

I’ve made this recipe with a variety of dried fruits in place of the raisins. My latest favorite is to substitute the raisins with chopped pecans and then to glaze them with Pioneer Woman’s Maple Glaze.

These are really good and easy! Our family LOVES scones and I’ve made many, many different scone recipes. I am to do home EC at school for the 7th & 8th grade class and we are going to serve a traditional English afternoon tea. All the scone recipes that I have made use chilled butter that you cut in and the reason that I tried this recipe was because I thought it would be easier for me and the children! And I like them! And they ARE easier! So we’re going to do three recipes…one pecan/maple, one craisin and one dried blueberry! Thanks for sharing!!
