Description

A good beer for beer bread is Home Brew, Porter, PA, IPA or Belgian. A stout or dark beer will give a darker bread with a heavier flavor. I have used Bass Ale, IPA, Beck’s, Guinness Stout, Shiner Bock etc. Happy baking!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups All Purpose Flour, Sifted
  • 3 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • 1 can (12-ounce) Can Of Beer
  • 2 Tablespoons Melted Butter

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 375F.
2. Mix dry ingredients thoroughly.
3. Stir in beer, blending well.
4. Lightly grease or spray a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.
5. Pour mixture into prepared loaf pan.
6. Pour melted butter over mixture.
7. Bake 35 minutes, remove from pan and cool for at least 15 minutes.

Note: Sift your flour before measuring and mix all ingredients together well before adding beer. Less mixing after adding the beer leads to a lighter loaf.

Does the temperature of the beer matter?

I tried this the other day-totally yummy!!! I think it’s comparable to the Pampered chef mixes.

So easy! Mine turned out a little lumpy on top too but that didn’t affect the flavour at all. I cut out 1 tbsp sugar because I was using a honey beer. It tastes fantastic, love the butter crust. A one bowl recipe that I’ll be making more than once!

jerseytu…
1.) There’s nothing wrong with “bumpy” bread. That’s part of the charm of making bread in your own oven.
2.) However if your bread was “lumpy” that is hard and gooey lumps mixed together, your dough was not mixed sufficiently before kneading.
3.) If the loaf was cracked but still tasted good, that just happens sometimes, even to experienced bakers, there is no way to prevent it.
4.) If your loaf was uneven your oven may not be level.
5.) If the bread baked unevenly, try placing your bread in various places in the oven. Even good ovens have hot and cold spots in them.

I made this; it was REALLY good, but my top was very bumpy, not smooth, bread looking like in your picture. It doesn’t really matter, I guess, but I wonder what happened…

Really love the simplicity of this… the first time I mixed by hand in a bowl… the second time I used a KitchenAid and was so happy with the texture… I also used honey instead of sugar the second time and it added some depth that worked nicely with the beer flavor.

Fast and easy to make. My son can make this. I had a container of garlic butter left over from papa johns and I melted that and poured over the dough, OMG the smell was so yummy we could not wait to eat it.
