Description

Using an old General Foods Kitchen recipe, I pretended to be a 1950’s housewife and whipped up a quick and easy brownie pudding using boiling water. This is insanely delicious and wicked simple.

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ⅓ cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 Tablespoons Cocoa, Divided
  • ¼ cups Milk
  • 1 Tablespoon Melted Butter
  • ½ teaspoons Vanilla
  • ¼ packages (about 6 Oz. Package) Crushed Walnuts (optional)
  • ½ cups Brown Sugar
  • ¾ cups Boiling Water

Preparation

Mix flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, salt, and one tablespoon cocoa. Then add the milk, butter, and vanilla. Mix until smooth, add nuts (reserve some for sprinkling), and pour into the greased baking dish. Mix the brown sugar and the remaining two tablespoons of cocoa together then sprinkle over the batter. Also sprinkle a little bit of nuts over it, and then pour the boiling water over the top. This makes a chocolate sauce at the bottom when done cooking, which is impressive to me.

Bake at 350F for thirty to forty minutes, then cool before serving. The recipe suggests a half hour, but I was not nearly so patient.

Note: it was pointed out to me that I did not mention the pan size. Luckily, such information was on the bottom of my pan, SO, I used a 6×9 glass baking dish. But I don’t see why this couldn’t be anything, depending on what you want.

Very good! Quick, easy & great taste.

Next time I think I’ll using serving size pans, though. Scooping it out of a larger pan makes for a messy presentation. Oh! And some sweetened whipped cream on top too.

Making it right now, but I realized it doesn’t specify the pan size?? I went with a 9-inch square, because I didn’t have enough batter for a 9×13, like the picture showed… Is that right? (I guess I’ll know in a few minutes, huh?)

Thanks, guys! I’m glad you all enjoyed it!

And Trish, I ended up having to paint my nails a very natural pink and curl my hair just so before baking, but it was worth it. :)

I made this yesterday…so easy and so good. My husband ate two bites, called it incredible, and asked me to make it again today! He said he never wants regular brownies again! MMMMMMMMMM!!!!
