Description

Cleaner Joes is a week night meal at it’s finest. It’s delicious. It’s truly one pot (no cutting board either) and dairy-free, gluten-free, and grain-free. We loved the sweet tanginess it had! Truthfully, I liked this much more than the normal Sloppy Joes. Those preservative filled cans have nothing on these Cleaner Joes!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • ½ cups Chopped Onions
  • ½ cups Chopped Green Bell Pepper
  • 2 cloves Minced Garlic
  • 1-½ pound Grass Fed Organic Beef
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Fine Kosher Salt
  • ¼ teaspoons Ground Black Pepper
  • ⅛ teaspoons Ground Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Hot Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Prepared Mustard
  • 1 can (8 Oz. Size) Tomato Sauce
  • 1 can (14 1/2 Oz. Size) Chopped Tomatoes, Drained
  • Shredded Cabbage Slaw Mix, To Serve

Preparation

Heat oil in a medium skillet on medium high heat. Sauté onions and bell peppers for 2 minutes. Add garlic.
Add ground beef and crumble. Add onion powder, chili powder, salt, pepper, and cloves. Cook meat until browned.

Add hot sauce, honey, mustard, tomato sauce, and drained chopped tomatoes. Bring to a boil and cook down (while stirring) until 1/4 of the sauce has evporated. Serve over undressed slaw.

Notes:
1. I used pre-chopped frozen green peppers and onion to make my life a little bit easier!
2. You can find the bag of shredded cabbage slaw mix in the produce section by the bagged salads.

This recipe is adapted from Southern Living’s Sloppy Joes.
