Description

Pork chops topped with sauteed onions and sliced apples – this is the perfect fall meal to me. Cinnamon gives it a nice warm flavor, enhancing the apples as well as the pork chops. Garlic mashed potatoes are a great side dish for these moist, delicious chops.

Ingredients

  • 6 whole Boneless Pork Chops
  • 4 Tablespoons Butter
  • ¼ cups Flour
  • 2 whole Medium Sized Onions, Sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme
  • 5 whole Gala Apples, Cored And Sliced
  • 4 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cups Apple Cider
  • 1-½ teaspoon Cinnamon

Preparation

In a large skillet, over medium heat, melt the butter. Lightly dredge the pork chops in the flour, shaking off the excess. Brown the pork chops on both sides in the butter. Salt and pepper them lightly. Transfer them to a baking dish.

Add the sliced onions to the skillet and saute until they have softened and start to turn translucent, about 7 or 8 minutes. Add the thyme and a little salt and pepper. Pour the onions on top of the pork chops, then place all the sliced apples on top of the onions. (Don’t saute the apples!)

Mix the apple cider, brown sugar and cinnamon together and pour over the apples/onions/pork. You can sprinkle on additional cinnamon if you like; I always do! Cover and bake at 425F for about 45 minutes or until the pork chops are done in the middle. Uncover for the last 12-15 minutes to brown the apples.

I made this tonight for “my man.” He LOVED it. I served it with some steamed veggies in cheese sauce and baked sweet potatoes. I treated him with a (runny, but nontheless very good) “caramel sauce.” He especially loved the pork chops. I only had five chops, and cut back on the apples by one. Great recipe, I will definitely make this again! Thank you

My family enjoyed this dish so much that I made it a second time a few days later. The second time I made it I used chicken stock instead of cider and it was just as good. We thought it went well with rice.
