Description

Simple syrups are a great way to sweeten chilled beverages but they’re usually made with sugar. This sugar free syrup can be used to make light refreshments, especially this delightful orange mojito!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE SYRUP:
  • ¼ cups Water
  • ¼ cups Sweet'N Low (12 Individual-size Packets) Or Comparable Sugar Substitute
  • 1 bunch Fresh Mint Leaves
  • FOR THE COCKTAIL:
  • 2 ounces, fluid Rum
  • 4 sprigs Mint
  • 1 ounce, fluid Lime Juice
  • ½ ounces, fluid Orange Flavored Liqueur (such As Triple Sec)
  • ½ ounces, fluid Skinny Syrup
  • 3 ounces, fluid Club Soda

Preparation

For the syrup:
In a small pot, bring the water and Sweet’N Low to a simmer and stir for a couple of minutes until the Sweet’N Low has dissolved. Remove pot from the heat and add the mint. Allow the mixture to cool then pour it into a bottle along with the mint leaves. Store unused portion in the refrigerator for up to a week.

To make the cocktail, add the rum and mint sprigs to a cocktail shaker and muddle them together using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon. Add the lime juice, orange liqueur and 1/2 ounce of the skinny syrup along with a handful of ice cubes. Shake well and pour into a chilled cocktail glass. Top off with the club soda and a sprig of mint.

If you’re making a large batch, you can also leave out the skinny syrup and serve it separately so that guests can sweeten their drinks to their own taste.
