  • 3 sticks Cinnamon (2-3 Inches Long)
  • 1 teaspoon Whole Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Whole Peppercorns
  • 1 whole Orange Peel, Removed With A Vegetable Peeler
  • 1 cup Water
  • ½ cups Sugar
  • 2 bottles (750ml Bottle) Full-bodied Red Wine, Such As Cabernet Or Shiraz
  • ½ cups Port

Preparation

Bring cinnamon, cloves, peppercorns, orange peel and water to boil in a small saucepan. Reduce heat and simmer until cinnamon sticks start to unfurl and spices have released their flavor, about 15 minutes.

I made this last Saturday and we drank it while watching out town’s Christmas parade. It was delicious, and I love the hint of spiciness from the perrercorns!!

Wow, my husband loves this stuff! He’s already made a second batch. It is quite strong when it’s hot, however, the flavors mellow as it cools. I like it better warm to room temperature.

Loved it! It has a very full-bodied, spicy taste. One of my friends thought it was a little strong, but I thought it was awesome. Next time I might try adding some freshly squeezed orange juice to ‘soften’ the flavor for any guests who may be looking for a milder flavor. Thanks for the recipe!!

This was so delicious. The peppercorns added something that I didn’t even realize was missing! I will be using this recipe from now on.
