Description

It’s all the buzz! Everyone’s blogging and pinning about cake mix popcorn and now even Rice Krispie treats! This is our family version of cake mix popcorn, also known as “Sugar on sugar, with a side of sugar.”

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Popcorn Kernels
  • 2 bags (12 Oz. Size) White Chocolate Chips
  • ½ cups Crisco
  • 1 box (18.25 Oz. Size) White Cake Mix
  • 1 bag (12 Oz. Size) Mini M&Ms, Divided

Preparation

Protect your dental work! After popping the popcorn (1/2 at a time), transfer the popcorn a handful at a time into a big bowl. This helps the unpopped kernels fall to the bottom of the old bowl, and hopefully stay out of your treats!

Melt the white chocolate in the microwave 25 seconds at a time, stirring each time, until it is all melted. I keep adding the Crisco every time I stir. Add the cake mix to the melted chocolate. It gets really thick, so feel free to re-microwave.

Pour the mix over the popcorn and stir as best you can. Add half the M&Ms to the popcorn mix.

Put parchment paper on a large cookie sheet, then pour the popcorn on to the parchment paper. Spread evenly and try to make sure the chocolate mix was disbursed semi-evenly. Then sprinkle the rest of the M&Ms on the popcorn.

Walk away and let it cool—or you will eat it before it’s done.

There are several cute ways to serve this but my family doesn’t have time for presentation. With 6 kids, it goes straight in the mouth. However, having said that, if you put some in Ziploc bags and drop these in the lunch boxes, you will be very popular!
