At my house, we call this crack. It’s that addictive. A fun, easy twist on toffee.
Heat oven to 350ºF. Spray a cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Line crackers on the cookie sheet close together. (You do want them touching, but not overlapping.)
In a medium saucepan, combine butter and sugar. On medium heat, melt mixture, stirring often. Cook for about 5 minutes until it resembles caramel sauce. Pour sauce over crackers until they are completely covered. Place in the oven and bake 15 minutes.
Remove from the oven and sprinkle the top with chocolate chips. They should begin to melt. (If needed, you can put them back into the warm oven for a few seconds.) Evenly spread chocolate chips over saltines and then top with crushed almonds. Allow to cool and then break into pieces.
