This is fancy and looks like you fussed but it is very quick, easy and delicious!
In a large bowl, prepare cake mix according to package directions. You’ll typically need water, eggs, and oil, as directed in the mix package, but for this recipe, substitute 4 egg yolks for the whole eggs.
Pour batter into greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. In another bowl, beat egg whites until peaks form. Gradually add 2/3 cup sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Spread meringue over the batter. Sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons sugar.
Bake at 350ºF for 35–40 minutes or until meringue is golden. Cool completely. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread with Cool Whip and top with half of the strawberries. Repeat with the remaining cake layer, Cool Whip and strawberries.
