This is my grandmother’s recipe. It is so wonderful! Make it for your next brunch, or anytime, really!
For the cake, cream together the shortening, brown sugar and white sugar. Add eggs, salt, baking soda, baking powder, flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg and buttermilk.
Pour batter into a 9×13 pan. Dot with butter, and top with a mixture of 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
Bake at 350ºF until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
