Description

This is a traditionnal Quebec recipe. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CAKE:
  • 1 cup Flour
  • ½ cups Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1-½ teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1  Egg, Beaten
  • ⅓ cups Milk
  • 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
  • Flaked Coconut, To Sprinkle On Top (optional)
  • FOR THE SAUCE:
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 cups Brown Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Butter

Preparation

For the cake:
In a mixing bowl, whisk the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. In another bowl, mix the egg, the milk and the vegetable oil. Add the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients. Beat until incorporated.

Spread the cake batter into an 8″ baking pan.

Sauce:
Combine water and brown sugar into a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then add the butter. Pour the sauce over the cake batter. If you want, you can sprinkle it with flaked coconut.

Bake at 350ºF for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
