It isn’t Christmas without these. My husband’s grandma began making them when Grandpa managed an agricultural extension station in Oklahoma. The original recipe appeared in a cute little booklet with the title “It’s Easy To Be a ‘Gourmet’ with Peanuts and Other Fine ‘Oklahoma’ Peanut Products”. Of course, grandma made plenty of changes of her own. These are NOT those hard little peanut pucks you find at the gas station.
Put sugar, syrup, milk, and peanuts in a saucepan and cook over very low heat for one hour. Add butter and vanilla. Add several drops of red food coloring (enough to make a bright pink). Beat until creamy (Grandma uses her hand mixer circa 1965) and spoon onto waxed paper (or Silpat) to form patties.
Fill bags and boxes and give them away to friends and family. Grandma hands out baggies full on Christmas Eve.
