The name of these squares has always confused me. They don’t have nuts or caramel like the candy bars, but they do have peanut butter and oatmeal.
Preheat oven to 350 F.
In a large bowl mix together the rolled oats, sugars and salt. Add the melted butter and mix to combine. Press lightly into a 13×18 baking sheet with sides. Bake for 12 minutes. Remove it from the oven and set it on a rack.
Add the peanut butter and chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 25 seconds, then stir. Continue heating for additional 25 second increments if needed, until smooth. Spread melted chocolate over the base while still warm.
Cool and slice into 48 bars.
Note: A half recipe would fit into a 9×13 pan.
