Fresh Plum Cake.
Heat oven to 325ºF. Butter and flour a 9″ square pan. Cut plums into thin wedges.
Combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and sugar. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
Combine the milk, eggs, and vanilla. Stir into dry ingredients until moistened. Pour into prepared pan.
Push plums into batter in rows, leaving skin side exposed. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 1 hour. Cool completely in the pan.
Serve with whipped cream if you like.
