This is my late grandmother’s recipe and the ultimate comfort food for me. She used to make this for every single one of my birthdays … and any other time I begged her to! It’s so easy to make.
Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl. Add oil, eggs, apples, walnuts, and vanilla; mix very well. Batter will be a little thick. Pour into a lightly greased 9×13 cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes, or until done.
As cake is coming out of oven, make the icing:
Melt the butter in a small saucepan; add brown sugar and evaporated milk. Stir well and bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil for 5 minutes. Pour over the cake while hot. Icing will harden a little as it cools.

I used to bake this all the time when I was a teen, lost the recipe and voila..you’ve shared it here! Thank you, now I can once again bake it and enjoy it.
