Fabulous cake recipe that starts with a box of your favorite cake mix. Everyone will ask you if this was made from scratch. I’ve found this recipe from a couple different sources and am not sure who to credit!
This recipe will perfectly fill two 10-inch round pans, two 8-inch square pans, or 36 regular cupcake liners.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
Into a large bowl put cake mix, flour, sugar, and salt. Use a whisk or fork to thoroughly combine. Set aside.
Into a large mixer bowl put eggs, water, and sour cream. Start mixing it on low speed and then slowly add the melted butter. This way, you won’t cook your eggs with the heat from the butter. Continue to mix on low speed until just combined.
Add dry ingredients slowly until incorporated. Then continue to mix on low speed for 2 minutes.
Pour the mix into greased and floured cake pans (or liners for cupcakes) until about two-thirds full.
Bake at 325 degrees F for 30 – 60 minutes depending on pan size (use the cake mix package as a guideline). If your oven heats unevenly (like mine) try trading pan positions about halfway through your baking, or once the cakes have developed crowns.
