Description

Dulce de leche is the Latin American version of caramel. Make these bars and everyone will think you are a top chef!

Ingredients

  • 2 packages Refrigerated Sugar Cookie (approximately 16 Oz Each)
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1-½ cup Rolled Oats Or Quick Oats
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • 1 can (13 Oz. Size) Dulce De Leche "La Lechera"

Preparation

1. Heat oven 350 F. Grease a 9×13 baking pan.
2. In a large bowl stir or knead together 1 roll of sugar cookie dough, 1/2 cup of sugar, 3/4 cups oats, 1 teaspoon vanilla. Press mixture evenly into the baking pan until you have an even crust. Bake for 14 minutes. (The crust will continue to bake in step 4).
3. While crust is in the oven, soften dulce de leche by heating it over low heat in a small saucepan until it is soft enough to spread easily on crust. When crust is done remove it from the oven and set it the dish on a rack. Spread the softened dulce de leche over the top.
4. Stir or knead the rest of the cookie ingredients: 1 roll sugar cookie dough, 1/2 cup sugar, 3/4 cups oats, 1 teaspoon vanilla. Crumble this mixture evenly over the dulce de leche. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until somewhat golden brown then remove dish from the oven and set it on a rack. Bars will continue to cook once you take them out of the oven.
5. Let them cool for 30 minutes. Then refrigerate for 1 hour.
6. Cut into squares of your desired size and enjoy!
