Think chocolate pudding with pie crust mixed into it, only BETTER! Sounds odd but tastes devine! For. Real.
On a floured surface roll out dough or biscuits to approximately ¼ inch thick and cut into approximately 1″x 1″ dumplings.
In a medium or large pot over medium heat bring milk to a simmer. In a large bowl beat eggs, sugar and cocoa until sugar is dissolved and mixture is thickened. Mix in cornstarch and mix until completely smooth. Slowly add some milk to the egg/sugar mixture, then transfer the egg mixture into the sauce pan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Add dumplings stirring constantly for 5-7 minutes or until dumplings are done.
Remove from heat and add vanilla, stir to incorporate.
Serve warm, cool or cold.
This is an “original” recipe handed down from my Grandmother to my Mother to me.
