Description

Sure fruit is great, but even more delicious dipped in chocolate! This recipe is more a method. Use your favorite fruits, chocolate and any “toppings” you have on hand. Voila! The perfect healthy treat for anytime at all. Great for Valentine’s Day and parties, too. Kids love to dip and pretty up these treats.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces, weight Fresh Or Dried Fruit - Bite Sized Pieces (strawberries, Bananas, Blackberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, Mandarin, Etc)
  • 4 ounces, weight Your Favorite Chocolate (I Like Bittersweet Or Semi-sweet)
  • 1 pinch Optional Spices (cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cardamom, Ginger, Etc.)
  • ½ cups Toppings, Such As Chopped Toasted Nuts, Coconut Flake, Sprinkles, Maple Sugar, Cacao Nibs, Etc.

Preparation

Notes:
Figure one ounce of unmelted chocolate per person and a few ounces of fruit. Adjust ingredients according to the crowd.
Have fun with this chocolate dipped fruit. You can use fresh fruit or dried fruit. You can add spices to the chocolate or not.

Wash and dry all fruit. If you are using any large fruit (apples, bananas) be sure to cut them into bite-sized pieces. Have toppings handy in small bowls. In a medium sauce pan bring 1 inch of water to a rolling boil.

Put desired amount of chocolate in a heat-safe metal bowl. This bowl is going to nest inside the saucepan; be sure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water inside. Reduce heat to a simmer and put the chocolate nesting bowl on top of the saucepan. Chocolate will gradually melt. Stir with a spatula and add any spices. Leave chocolate over the simmering water bath while you dip fruit so it does not harden. Pierce berries and other fruits onto skewers, dip in chocolate. If the pieces of fruit are large enough you can gently dip holding with your fingers. Roll in toppings.
