Banana and chocolate…a scrumptious flavor combination that melts in your mouth…This moist cake is easy to put together and looks amazing frosted~
Preheat oven to 300*
Grease and flour 2 round cake pans.
In med. bowl mix flour and baking soda and salt. Set aside.
With electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour mixture alternating with the buttermilk. Stir in the bananas and the 6 ounces of mini chocolate chips. Pour batter into prepared pans, gently leveling.
Bake for 50 minutes to an hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Remove from oven and place directly into the freezer for 45 minutes. (This step is important! This step has been tested! It makes the cake moist, I promise !) When cake is cool frost with Chocolate Frosting…
Chocolate Frosting
Combine the chips, half & half and butter in a saucepan. Stir over low heat until melted and combined. Put in mixing bowl and mix in the powdered sugar (It will be a little thin). Put the bowl in the freezer for about 30 minutes…mix again until it’s a good frosting consistency. (if it’s too thin chill and mix again)

I made this in a 9×13 pan and couldn’t get the icing to come together for me. I ended up adding more icing sugar and it worked out. My nephew enjoyed it!

Robin, this was delicious. I used an extra banana because I love bananas.
I also found that the recipe resulted in a cup of surplus icing, so would probably reduce to 4 cups powdered sugar and 1 cup butter for next time. And there WILL be a next time! Thank you muchly for sharing.

Excellent! I made this for a neighborhood get-together and got rave reviews.
I left it sit on the counter overnight and the frosting got a little soft. The top layer of the cake slid partway off on the car ride over, but luckily I fixed it with some emergency cake surgery upon arrival. I think if I would have put it in the fridge overnight the frosting would have been perfect.
