Also called butter bars, cream cheese bars, and ‘blondie things’ by some.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and make sure the cream cheese has reached room temperature. (It makes it easier to mix, but I’ve made it MANY times cold and it does just fine.)
Grease the 9×13 baking dish. (I use glass pyrex.)
In one bowl, combine the cake mix, 1 egg, and softened butter. Beat until creamy.
Pour into pyrex dish.
In another bowl, combine the other ingredients (remaining 3 eggs, powdered sugar, cream cheese, and vanilla). Beat until thoroughly mixed.
Bake at 350 degrees F for one hour. Make sure to let cool before cutting (if you can find self-control), otherwise they are hard to keep formed in squares.
I use low fat cream cheese and butter. To me, that gives it a better consistency.
