Description

I have been making these Cherry Squares since the 1970’s! This recipe is always a big hit. The flavor is rich and buttery like a pound cake. If you don’t like cherries, just use your favorite pie filling. This recipe is super simple with basic ingredients. I always have a can of pie filling in my pantry.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Salted Butter (soft)
  • 1-½ cup White Sugar
  • 4  Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract
  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1 can (20 Oz. Size) Cherry Pie Filling
  • Powdered Sugar, Optional, For Sprinkling

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 F.

In a large bowl using an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat until creamy. Beat in vanilla and almond extracts. Mix in flour and beat for 2 minutes. Spread it across the bottom of a greased 13 x 9 pan. With a knife mark off 20 squares. Start by spooning 3 cherries into the center of each square. Add extra cherries to the squares around the edges until you run out. Do not use all the sauce. Make sure to leave some batter between the scoops of cherries so the batter can cook up and around the cherries.

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes at 350 F. Cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
