Description

These bars are light and moist. Don’t skimp on the browned butter frosting, there’s nothing like it!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE BARS:
  • 1-½ cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • ½ cups Unsalted Butter, Softened
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1-½ cup Bananas, Mashed
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ cups Chopped Nuts (optional)
  • FOR THE FROSTING:
  • ¼ cups Unsalted Butter
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 3 Tablespoons Milk

Preparation

For the bars:
Heat oven to 375 F. Grease and flour (or use Bakers Joy) a jelly roll pan (15-1/2″ x 10-1/2″ x 1″). Mix sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs in a large bowl. Beat in bananas and vanilla. Mix in flour, salt, and baking soda. Stir in nuts, if using. Spread mixture evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely. Spread the top of the cooled cake with frosting. Cut into bars and enjoy!

For the frosting:
In a medium size saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Once it’s a delicate brown color remove from heat. Mix in powdered sugar. Then, stir in vanilla and milk until smooth. Add as little or as much milk as you need for it to be a spreading consistency.
