A not-too-chocolaty, moist cake that is hard to resist! Even men like it! One of my Grandma’s own recipes.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Make sure you add everything in the order given! So, cream together the shortening, sugar, eggs, cocoa, cinnamon, and applesauce. Then sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt; add to the creamed mixture. Pour into a greased 9×13 pan.
Mix topping together and carefully and evenly spread over the top of the cake. You’ll probably have topping leftover, but if you’re like me you’ll just add it anyway. Hey, who counts calories? (No talking if you do…)
Bake for 20-25 minutes. I like serving it warm with vanilla ice cream! Mmm … enjoy!
