Description

A super quick, easy, and delicious apple tart that tastes like a cake and will have you wanting seconds, if there are any leftovers!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CINNAMON SUGAR:
  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • FOR THE TART:
  • 1 cup All-purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ½ cups Unsalted Butter, Softened
  • ¾ cups Sugar
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 3 whole Granny Smith Apples (peeled, Cored, And Sliced)

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 375ºF. Spray a 9-inch springform pan with oil.

For the cinnamon sugar, in a small mixing bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon and set aside.

For the tart, in another small mixing bowl, combine flour and baking powder. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in the eggs and then the vanilla. Add the flour mixture and beat on low speed until combined. Spread this mixture on the bottom of the springform pan.

Arrange the apple slices in tight concentric circles on top of the dough. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top of the apples. Bake for 45 minutes, until edges are golden brown and center is set. Cool tart in pan for at least 10 minutes. Run a sharp knife around the inside edge of the tart and then remove the sides of the spring form pan.

The original recipe came from Gail Simmons, host of Top Chef: Just Desserts and was made with pears, but I substituted with apples and, of course, added my usual twists. Eat up!
