Moist, with hints of spice and a delectable crumb topping, this cake is sure to be a fall favorite.
For the cake:
Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
Combine the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract in a large bowl. Slowly whisk in the melted butter. Add the pecans and apple, followed by the buttermilk, spices, and salt. Whisk in the flour and baking powder and pour the batter into a greased 9-inch square baking dish.
For the topping:
Place the apple in a small bowl. Toss or stir to coat it with the cinnamon, brown sugar, and flour. Pour in the butter and stir to combine. Place evenly over the surface of the batter.
Bake for 1 hour, or until a cake tester comes out cleanly. Enjoy!
