This dense and moist cake showcases tart apples with rich cream cheese frosting. My family has loved this recipe for many generations.
To make cake:
Beat eggs until light and fluffy. Gradually add sugar, oil and vanilla.
In separate bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg and add to egg mixture.
Stir in apples and walnuts.
Put in greased 13 x 9 pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Watch carefully.
Let cake cool completely before frosting.
To make frosting:
Beat together cream cheese and butter until fluffy. Add vanilla. Slowly add powdered sugar until well incorporated.
