We got this recipe for brownies while in Africa for several months working in a mission hospital. The missionaries used this recipe because it called for cocoa, which they had in abundance, rather than baking chocolate. I have made hundreds of pans over the years!
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 9×13 pan.
Mix together cocoa (I use a couple tablespoons of dark cocoa, the rest regular), butter, sugar and eggs. Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Add chocolate chips, and/or nuts if desired.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 22-25 minutes or so. Check for desired doneness—we prefer them a little on the underdone side.

Glad you liked them, jenbella! I am with your husband on this one. We have some friends who loves the edges—my least favorite part. More than once I have made a pan of brownies, cut all the edges and delivered them to these friends. Isn’t it funny how we all like different things?!

We just made these brownies and they are great. They are really thick and sweet. I like brownies more cake-like and my husband likes them more fudge-like, so we compromised and put them in the oven for about 28 minutes. I would have left them in a little bit longer for a more cake-like brownie. Thanks for the recipe!
