This homemade tomato sauce is as simple to prepare as it is delicious to eat.
Cut the tomatoes in half lengthwise and remove the seeds. Place in a large pot and add enough water to cover. Boil over high heat for 20-30 minutes until the tomatoes are very soft.
Remove the tomatoes from the water and carefully remove the peels. Discard the peels.
Heat the butter in a large wide pot over medium heat. Add the bread crumbs and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring now and again, until golden. Add the tomatoes and season with a bit of kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Cook for about 20 minutes over low heat, stirring every now and again.
Turn off the heat and blend the sauce using a hand mixer. Alternatively, place the sauce in a blender in batches to blend. Taste the sauce, and if needed, add a dash of sugar (mine did not require any). Serve over your favorite pasta and enjoy!
