Description

I can never use a whole carton of buttermilk, so I learned how to make my own in the quantities I need, which is awesome and a money saver. :)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Milk (I Use Skim Milk)
  • 1 Tablespoon Acid (white Vinegar Or Lemon Juice, Which Adds A Nice Tartness OR Cream Of Tartar)

Preparation

Mix 1 tablespoon of acid (I use lemon juice or white vinegar) with each cup of milk.

Used this on Thanksgiving to make my garlic mashed potatoes! I knew I would never use a whole carton (I only needed about 1/2 cup!) Thanks!

Thank you, you just saved our dinner! The grocery store was out of buttermilk and I was wondering what to do.

I use this all the time. It has worked in everything I’ve used it in.

Thank you, Fridaypeach – I learned this from my Mom long ago but had forgotten it. This is the perfect recipe when making pancakes, waffles and even bleu cheese or ranch dressing. A wonderful and simple solution. Many thanks!

This is the best! My husband is lactose intolerant so I can use our lactose free milk! I could never cook with buttermilk before! Thanks so much!!
