Description

Here’s a base for ham glaze. Take it and run with it! If you want a sweet ham, use a sweet wine and the honey. The honey will sweeten the glaze, and also add an amazing shine to the ham. If you want a citrus taste, use orange juice.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Ham
  • 1 cup Packed Light Brown Sugar
  • 2-½ Tablespoons Flour
  • ¾ teaspoons Dried Mustard
  • ¼ teaspoons Cinnamon (I Use The Saigon From McCormick)
  • 3 Tablespoons Flavor Liquid (Sherry, Red Wine, White Wine, Triple Sec, Orange Juice, Whatever Flavor You're Going For)
  • 3 Tablespoons Vinegar
  • 3 Tablespoons Water

Preparation

Trim, score, or do whatever your ham needs for prep, but at least make sure to score the ham in a diamond pattern if it’s not a spiral sliced.

Mix all of the above ingredients well and spread on ham before putting it into oven.

I like to reserve some of the glaze for brushing on during cooking and also for after pulling the ham out. I’ve even doubled this recipe, added some of it to the ham drippings, reduced it, and served it as a glaze for serving . . . that is, if I don’t use a spiral sliced ham.

I’ll never make plain ham again! This was delish and the whole family loved it. I just made half the recipe and put it on a big (already cooked) ham steak, then just baked low and slow for about 90 minutes to get it good and caramelized. FANTASTIC!
