Description

I’m not sure where this came from originally and it changes a bit according to available ingredients but it’s VERY good! Use it for basting, marinade or as a dip, hot or cold. Goes great with chicken, beef, pork … well, everything!

Ingredients

  • ¾ teaspoons Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Pepper
  • ¾ teaspoons Paprika
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 2-½ ounces, fluid Tomato Ketchup
  • 2-½ ounces, fluid Tomato Juice
  • 1 whole Small Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 5 ounces, fluid Water
  • 2 ounces, fluid Vinegar Or Lemon Juice
  • ¼ teaspoons Garlic Salt OR 1 Clove Garlic
  • ½ teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 ounce, weight Butter

Preparation

Throw it all in a heavy-bottomed pan and boil it. When it’s boiled up and onion is soft, use it!

If you find any good combinations with this sauce, please leave me a note!

I’m glad you found it then. I usually do make it with lemons too but if you are in a hurry and don’t have any… vinegar is ok.

This reminds me of the BBQ sauce my Grandmother loved so much. She would “mop” the chicken while on the grill with the sauce flavored butter or oil that rises to top of the sauce. When the chicken was cooked all the way through is when she would dip her “mop” all the way to the bottom of the sauce and start spreading it on the chicken. Talk about moist flavorful BBQed chicken! She always used lemon juice instead of vinegar, and I have to agree with her choice. It seems that the lemon juice makes it “fresher” and lighter, but still just as flavorful. Thanks for the great recipe, and the reminder of my Grandmother.
