Description

I adapted this sauce from The Pioneer Woman’s bbq chicken recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Canola Oil
  • Diced Onion, To Taste
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • ¾ cups Brown Sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons Basalmic Vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Tapatio Hot Sauce
  • 3 teaspoons Sambal Oelek Ground Chili Paste

Preparation

Heat canola oil in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add onion and garlic, and cook for five minutes, stirring, being careful not to burn them.

Reduce heat to low. Add all remaining ingredients and stir. Allow to simmer for about 15 minutes. Taste after simmering and add whatever ingredient it needs (more spice, more sugar, etc.).

Note:

To use this sauce to make balsamic bbq chicken, preheat the oven to 425ºF. Place chicken legs (recipe makes enough for 18 chicken legs) on a broiler pan or any pan with a rack, then roast for 25 minutes.

Remove chicken legs from the oven. With tongs, dip each chicken leg into the sauce, submerging completely. Place back onto the pan. After all chicken is coated, return the pan to the oven for 15 minutes. (I had a lot of sauce so I drizzled extra on the chicken before popping it back in the oven.)

Let cool around 5 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
