A smoky-sweet, slightly spicy barbecue sauce made from scratch.
1. Finely mince onion and garlic.
2. Heat olive oil or butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and garlic and sweat 4-5 minutes until onions are translucent and tender, but not browned.
3. Add all remaining ingredients and stir to mix. Reduce heat to low and simmer 20 minutes until sauce has reduced slightly and darkened in color.
4. Taste to check seasonings, adjusting as needed.
5. Serve brushed over meats in last 5-10 minutes of cooking or as a base for barbecue chicken pizza.
