I think something is off on this recipe. It says to bake 1 hour. I checked mine at 45 minutes and it was dark brown so I pulled it out and it was dry and crackly through out. I looked at my other baked oatmeal recipes and they only cook 30 minutes. They all have more liquid ingredients (egg, butter, etc) but I had thought that perhaps the applesauce was their replacement. This just didn’t work out at all.

Thanks for a good basic recipe! I made this today, but I subbed 1/2 cup honey for the brown sugar; added a 1/4 cup wheat germ, 1/4 cup milled flax seed, 1/2 cup chopped pecans, 1/2 cup dried mix berries, 1 tsp vanilla extract; and cut the salt in half. It was great!

I LOVE this recipe. I add dried cranberries or blueberries and walnuts, cut them into squares and freeze them for a quick breakfast.

I’m not much of a breakfast person either. I grew into it, but like you it used to make me have a stomach ache. I’ve never had baked oatmeal before but I am definitely trying this it looks so good. Thanks =]
