Description

These powdered sugar caky “donuts” are made in a muffin tin!

Ingredients

  • 1-¾ cup All-purpose Flour
  • 1-½ teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ¼ teaspoons Nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • ⅓ cups Canola Or Vegetable Oil
  • ¾ cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 whole Egg
  • ¾ cups Milk
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar

Preparation

1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon. In a smaller bowl (or large liquid measuring cup), combine oil, sugar, egg and milk. Add wet ingredients to dry, and fold until just combined.

3. Grease a muffin tin and distribute the batter equally between the 12 cups. Bake for 20 minutes.

4. Meanwhile, put the powdered sugar in a large bowl. Remove the muffins from the tin while they’re still hot, toss in the powdered sugar (I tossed each muffin twice), and set aside on a rack to cool.

Ellenberry-how do you fill (inject) these with jam? My kids would LOVE that!

I think we’ve found a new go-to recipe for the Sunbeam Donut Maker we bought ourselves for Christmas! I had some problems getting the powdered sugar to stick nicely – even straight out of the pan – but the donuts/muffins are good enough on their own that it doesn’t really make a difference. Not to mention, I think they’ll make a great base for other things. [How fun would a decorate-your-own donuts station be at a party?]

These are beyond great! So delicious, and really very reminiscent of a store bought cake donut, in my opinion. I fully intend to make some kind of a pumpkin variation come the fall!
