Description

An easy and hearty scone recipe. Perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

  • 1-½ cup Flour
  • ¾ cups Rolled Oats
  • ¼ cups Packed Brown Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • ½ cups Cold Butter
  • ½ cups Cold Milk
  • 1 Tablespoon Melted Butter
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • ¼ teaspoons Cinnamon

Preparation

Heat the oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a baking sheet.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Mix well. With a fork or pastry blender, cut in the cold butter until the mixture is crumbly. Add the milk all at once and stir until just moistened. Add a little flour to the bottom of the bowl and knead the dough 5 or 6 times.

Place the dough onto your prepared baking sheet and form into a 6″ round, leaving it about 1″ thick. Brush the top with the melted butter.

In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle it over the top of your scone. Score the scone deeply into 8 wedges.

Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with your favorite jam, or all by itself. These really are easy and so tasty!

So delicious and incredibly easy for a scone! These are just teensy touch sweet, and you could certainly up the sugar quotient to make them sweeter, but these will be so perfect with coffee it isn’t even funny. Awesome recipe!

I used my food processor to combine the butter with all dry ingredients except for the rolled oats. We enjoyed these as they’re not too sweat. I baked up a small batch of these and froze the rest. Thank you for sharing it.

These scones are delicious. The crust is crisp, the interior is tender and moist and they are just barely sweet. The cinnamon is adds great flavor without being too dominant. It doesn’t need butter, even! I really like that they have oatmeal in them, gives them just a touch of extra texture. I added just a 1/4 tsp of vanilla to complement the cinnamon. I will definately make these again . Thanks, tessks, great recipe!
