Description

Bread that is soft and delicious.

Ingredients

  • 7 ounces, weight Plain Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ⅛ ounces, weight Yeast
  • ½ teaspoons Sugar
  • ½ whole Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vegetable Oil
  • ½ cups Lukewarm Water

Preparation

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, yeast and sugar. Mix well. Now add egg and oil. Mix well. Pour the water little by little and start kneading. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic.

Cover the dough and let rise in a warm place 30 minutes.

Now take the dough and make rounds balls, about the size of a lime. Cover the balls and let rest for about 10 minutes.

Take a ball and roll it with rolling pin. Roll each ball into thin disks about 6 inches in diameter.

Heat the griddle on medium heat. Spread a little oil or butter on the griddle. Place the bread on it. When you see small bubbles on it, turn it over.

Now remove from heat using tongs. Place it on a metal frame as in the photo (or a rack if you don’t have a metal frame) and and put it in direct fire (high flame). It will puff up. Let it balloon. When brown, take it off the flame.

Serve hot with curry. Enjoy.

This bread is delicious! I used to make something similar to it, but this recipe is so much better.

I do not have a kitchen scale so I was guesstimating on the amounts of flour and yeast, so my dough never rose. But it still turned out lovely.

Since I have an ancient ring top stove, I gound that cooking the bread over medium/high heat in my non stick pan worked better than medium heat.

I also used tongs and held the bread about 3 inches over the back burner on high and was able to puff out the bread similar to the picture.

My guys devoured the bread so quickly that I have to make another batch tomorrow!

All in all this is a great “quick” bread and it is worth the time it takes to cook the discs to perfection!
