Description

**Warning:** After reading this post and trying out this recipe, you will likely never go back to buying store-bought croutons again. In fact, you will probably find it hard to believe you ever spent money on store-bought croutons in the first place.

Ingredients

  • ½ loaves Day Old French Bread
  • ¼ cups Olive Oil
  • 1-½ teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Using a bread knife, cut the bread into 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch cubes. If you prefer larger or smaller croutons, make your cuts accordingly—just be sure to make the cues as similarly-sized as possible to help them bake evenly. In a large bowl, toss bread cubes with enough olive oil to lightly coat. Add kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper to taste and any seasonings you prefer. Once cubes are evenly and lightly coated, pour bread onto a baking pan lined with aluminum foil (for easy clean-up).

Bake bread in oven for 20-30 minutes until bread is golden and very crunchy. Toss cubes several times during baking.

Homemade croutons, stored in a plastic container or a plastic bag, last up to two weeks unrefrigerated.

Enjoy!

I make large amounts of this and store it in an air tight container. Doesn’t last long! Love this recipe.

This is the 1st time I have ever made homemade croutons and OH. MY. I ate 2 bowls of salad with dinner so I could keep eating them and everyone in the family keeps snacking on them. :) I just did the EVOO, salt, pepper, and parsley. Mmmm!!!!!

sweetpeachef is right, you will not go back to store bought after this!!

I made these croutons with leftover hoagie rolls (admittedly, they were from making Marlboro Man’s Favorite Sandwich a few weeks ago and I finally pulled the bread out of the freezer). They were really yummy and a good way to use up old bread. I always eye the croutons in the salad aisle at the store in some of my weaker moments, and this homemade version is delish! Thank you!
