Description

This is the best way to make cinnamon toast. Studies have proven it.

Ingredients

  • 16 slices Bread (whole Wheat Is Great!)
  • 2 sticks Salted Butter, Softened
  • 1 cup Sugar (more To Taste)
  • 3 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract (more To Taste)
  • ⅛ teaspoons Ground Nutmeg (optional)

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Smush softened butter with a fork. Dump in sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg, if using. Stir to completely combine.

Spread on slices of bread, completely covering the surface all the way to the edges.

Place toast on a cookie sheet. Place cookies sheet into the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Turn on the broiler and broil until golden brown and bubbling. Watch so it won’t burn!

Remove from oven and cut slices into halves diagonally.

Well…let’s see…I have eaten cinnamon toast my entire very long life and still enjoy it. However, I did not know I had been making it wrong, my mother had been making it wrong, and my grandmother had been making it wrong. All I know is that I’ve always enjoyed it a lot (especially with good cinnamon). Now I need to relearn the correct way to make it and I’m really looking forward to it. The right way sounds absolutely delicious, especially with the addition of vanilla. I’m a true believer that things are always better with a little dollop of vanilla (french toast, pancakes and waffles!). Can’t wait to try it!

Your way of making cinnamon toast sounds delicious and I will definately be trying soon. I do love the way my grandma taught me though, butter white bread, sprinkle with a generous amount of powdered sugar, then sprinkle with cinnamon, then stick it under the broiler until the top is carmalized watch out though cause you can go too far really quick and then you’ll end up with burnt toast… but it is YUMMY!

Thanks for your in-depth research, Ree! Quite the tasty controversy you’ve stirred up. :)

This is great! Did half whole wheat & half in a nice sourdough bread. 3 out of 4 liked the wheat the best. Super easy to make.

I really don’t think there is a right or wrong way to make cinnamon toast; just a person’s preference.

I grew up making it like poster, HEATHER” makes it. “Butter the bread, sprinkle with sugar, sprinkle with cinnamon, and broil until top has carmelized.”Yummy!

I’m sure Ree’s is very good, (Love her!) but that doesn’t make the way we grew up eating/making it necessarily the wrong way.

My family and I love cinnamon toast this way. I grew up eating it just out of the toaster with butter and cinnamon sugar. This is a million times better. Thanks for the how-to!

Thanks for teaching me how to do this…this is a Sunday and sometimes Saturday morning breakfast almost every weekend. My kids request this all the time. Simple and so so good!

I will never eat cinnamon toast any other way EVER again. It blew me away :) It also works quite well to mix up a batch, refridgerate it, and make just a couple of pieces at a time while you are getting ready for work if you don’t have a herd to feed.
