My friend and I made these as a late-night snack in college, over a bottle of Amontillado and some old movies. The sweet almond flavor coupled with the chocolate and dried cherries is amazing! They’re very sweet, dense, and rich.
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Add butter in small slices and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add yogurt, milk, and almond extract until moistened. Knead in cherries and chips. Shape dough into a circle approximately 1″ to 1 1/2″ thick. Score into 8 wedges. Lightly brush the top with milk.
Bake at 400ºF for 20–25 minutes, until edges and top are lightly golden.
