Description

It’s just what the name says. Reminiscent of that famous steak house’s bread. Tastes great with soup or toasted with butter!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Water, Plus 2 Tablespoons
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter, Softened
  • 2 Tablespoons Molasses
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 2-½ cups Flour
  • 1 cup Rye Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons Yeast

Preparation

Put the ingredients in your bread machine and set it on the dough cycle. Remove at the beep and shape into a loaf.

Place in a greased 10×5″ pan and bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes or until the bread reaches 185° internal temperature.

I made this bread last night, and it was SO good! I love having an easy rye bread recipe, and this one is a keeper for sure!

I did make this in my bread machine. I almost just baked it there too but I thought there must be a reason it is pulled out at the dough stage and baked(?). I didn’t have any rye flour so I used all bread flour and it was still delicious, though more brown than black in color. Thanks for this recipe!

Kneaded by hand, formed 2 small loaves and baked on greased baking sheet. Subtle and intricate sweetness. We will definitely make it again.

I’ve made this recipe several times and really like it. I don’t use the bread machine, just a single rise, then shape, rise again and bake. I brush the tops with a little melted butter for the last few minutes of baking for a nice finish. All in all, a really simple, yummy recipe. Thank you!!
