A sweet creamy rice with spices. I love to have this in the morning in place of oatmeal.
Bring water to a boil, then add rice and cover the pan. Turn the heat to medium low, just enough to keep the water simmering and continue to simmer until all water has been absorbed.
Then add milk, re-cover the pan and allow to simmer until all milk has been absorbed. You should end up with the same consistency as oatmeal.
Before serving, stir in sugar, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Note: do not use Minute Rice. You need to use real rice or you’ll end up with a sloppy mess!

My grandmother makes this recipe too, which she just taught me how to make. My favorite sweet dish. Period.

Muffinmom:
Yes, you can use brown rice, I do every once in a while…and I use skim milk too sometimes. Note though that you’ll have to probably extend the simmer time. I’ve found brown rice takes a lot longer to cook. Some times if it seems the milk isn’t absorbing all the way I will just take it off the burner, still covered and just let it set for about 15 minutes and it will absorb the milk.
Hope you enjoy!
