I live far out of town and going to the store can be a hassle. This a basic recipe that doesn’t require buttermilk or shortening. It is a fast a simple way to make a biscuit that is also delicious!
Put 3 tablespoons of the butter on a cookie sheet and pop it in the oven for a few minutes to melt while the oven preheats to 425 F. When it is melted, pull it out of the oven and swirl the pan to coat it with the butter.
Now mix the rest of the ingredients in a large bowl. Roll out the dough using a rolling pin (half inch to an inch thick) and cut it with a round biscuit cutter. The top of a glass will also work. Use a little extra flour if it is sticky. Take each biscuit and put it on the cookie sheet. Continue until you’ve used all of the dough.
Flip the biscuits on the pan to coat both sides with the butter. Bake for about 10 minutes until the corners look brown. You can coat the tops with more butter when they come out if desired. Oven temperatures can vary so keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t burn. Serve with chicken or jam or bacon or pretty much anything!
