A soft scone where the chocolate chips and peanuts can be substituted for any other filling you want.
For the scones:
In a large mixing bowl, place the flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda and stir together. Stir in the buttermilk and melted butter, combine well. It will first be dry but after sufficient mixing it will become moist. Add chocolate chips and peanuts until combined. Drop 8-9 mounds of batter onto greased baking sheet. Sprinkle a little extra sugar on top. Bake at 400ºF for 15 minutes until lightly browned. Remove from oven and let them cool a little on a cooling rack. Serve warm.
For the icing:
With a hand mixer, mix together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until it is the consistency of a smooth icing. Take a spoon, dip it in the icing, and spread it over the top of each scone.
