I honestly have no idea how this bread tastes at room temperature, because the smell of a loaf baking in the oven always makes the family come running and it’s gone before it has a chance to cool.
Put all dry ingredients in bread machine. Add honey and Crisco. Pour warm water (not room temperature, but not hot enough to kill the yeast) over top. I’m sure there’s a certain temperature that’s proper for this, but I always just judge it to touch.
Turn the bread machine on “dough” cycle and let it work its magic. My machine takes about 1 1/2 hours.
Preheat oven to 375F. Grease and flour a bread pan (or use Baker’s Joy spray). Transfer the warm dough from the machine to the bread pan (no kneading, rolling, or anything) and put it in the preheated oven on a low rack.
Bake for about 40 minutes, or until golden brown. Let sit until you can cut it without burning your fingers. Spread with honey, butter, or a blend of the two, and serve to eager taste-testers.
This recipe yields one standard-sized loaf.
