Description

Fresh-baked bread that needs NO kneading!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Active Dry Yeast
  • 1-¾ cup Warm Water
  • 1 cup Old Fashioned Oats, Divided
  • ⅓ cups Honey
  • 3 Tablespoons Canola Oil
  • 2-½ teaspoons Salt
  • 5 cups Flour
  • 1 whole Egg, Beaten

Preparation

Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let set for 10 minutes until frothy. In a large bowl, mix together 3/4 cup oats, honey, oil and salt, and the yeast-water mixture. Stir in enough of the flour to form a soft dough. Coat a large bowl with non-stick spray. Transfer dough the bowl and turn it over to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and then a kitchen towel. Let rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in volume.

Punch the dough down and shape into 2 loaves. I just free-formed 2 loaves on a baking sheet. But you can use loaf pans if you want (this is actually what the recipe calls for). Cover and let rise for 20 minutes.

Brush the top of the loaves with beaten egg, and sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 cup oats. Bake at 350ºF for 35-40 minutes. When you knock on the bottom of the bread and it sounds hollow, it is done.

Top with butter or honey for a delicious side to any meal!

This wasn’t my favorite bread. I’ve made breads I liked more. But everyone else that tasted it loved it. Old people, young kids, in between. Who am I to argue?

I made this yesterday for lunch and it was amazing! The easiest recipe, and the best bread ever. I will make this again for sure!

Easy and Yummy! We ate this with some soup for dinner last night. I think it will be on regular rotation at our house. No more buying bread, maybe.

Delicious! I needed a relatively quick bread recipe for dinner the other night and decided to try this one. I’m so glad I did! Good fresh from the oven or toasted the following day(s). I made mine in loaf pans for more consistent slices and it turned out just fine that way too. This one is definitely going into my recipe book! Thank you!

Easy, easy, easy. If you never made bread before this recipe will be super for you to give a try. It turned out great; super soft, perfect color, and slices easy.

Thanks for sharing.
