Oh this is so good. I made it today since we won’t have time tomorrow, and it was divine! My dad (59), said it was the best he had ever had in his entire life.
Thanks!
P.S.
I forgot to add the thyme, red onion, and red wine vinegar, but it was still great without it. Thanks!

After finishing my second helping (will that make me luckier in the New Year?) I am declaring this the BEST b.e.pea recipe I’ve ever tasted and if you’re a Southerner like me, you’ve tried plenty! Left out the red onion and red wine vinegar – didn’t matter….the thyme addition was divine!

Excellent! And I’m not a huge BEP fan (but I’m more superstitious, so I eat them every year!), but these are definitely a do-over.

I really never liked black-eyed peas, but decided to start the New Year with luck. These are the best I have ever tasted and have removed the “never” to “I really like black-eyed peas!” They turned out absolutely delicious and I will definitely make them again! Thank you SO MUCH for starting my New Year with a lucky and delightful dish.

We had family over last night and I served this. It was wonderful and so easy to make (I put mine in crock pot.) I am looking forward to leftovers for lunch

Wow! These were some of the best black-eyed peas I’ve had in a long time! They were a huge hit with the entire family.
Just a note: I didn’t have fresh thyme so I used dried and added it a little earlier than the recipe calls for. Also I used homemade stock I had in the freezer.
Thanks for the great recipe!

Yum! We had this for New Year’s day lunch and leftovers the next day to which my husband said we need to be sure to make this recipe again!

Best black-eyed peas I’ve ever had! I made this with smoked turkey sausage instead of the pork and with red pepper flakes. Left out the thyme since I didn’t have it on hand.

I’m wondering what the coin is all about. Is that to prevent boil-over or something? I think I’ll be trying this one!

vraklis, it’s for good “luck”
whomever finds it in their bowl gets luck for the coming year!

I love how it says 1 WHOLE coin like one may get confused and chop it up :-p I have got my beans soaking right now and can’t wait to try this out later!

Love it as well! Cooked it yesterday for my daughter and her family and they all (even the two gran girls, 3 & 18 months) loved the Black-eyed Peas. I believe this is a staple for me as those were the best I have ever eaten. The Red Wine Vinegar does make a difference and never heard about the coin for good luck idea but a little extra luck is always good.
