Plug in crock pot.
Add water or milk, oats and dash of salt (optional but it really helps to bring out the nutty flavor of the oats) to the crock pot bowl. Cover with lid.
Milk creates a creamier consistency. Water is more traditional.
Set to low. Allow to cook 6-8 hours overnight depending on how hot your crockpot cooks. Newer models often cook faster and hotter.
Stir oats and serve.
Add cream, honey, fresh fruit, dried fruit, nuts, brown sugar – whatever you love in your oatmeal.
Easy peasy!
The recipe can easily be doubled, which is how I usually make it.
P.S. Soak your crockpot bowl for a little while once it’s done. Don’t leave cooked oatmeal in the crock – . it will take a long time to get it off.
